Lions Gibraltar

The club began life in 1966 as Lions Football Club. Nearly half a century later, in 2011, the side merged with Gibraltar United, founded in 1943; United's senior team was dissolved but its place in the Premier Division carried over.

Owner Mark Palmer has spoken of an ethos built around developing home-grown Gibraltarian players, and the club points to what it calls the largest youth setup in the league as proof of it. On the pitch, the men's side is grouped with Lincoln Red Imps and Europa FC among Gibraltar's traditional big three, though nothing quite qualifies as a fixed rivalry beyond the sharp edge of games against Bruno's Magpies. Since the 2011 merger, the men's team has gone without a league or Rock Cup title, its best finish a fourth place in 2015–16, and last season it came closest yet, finishing runner-up in the Rock Cup.

The women's side tells a different story. They have taken the Gibraltar Women's Football League seven times, most recently in 2024–25, and the Women's Rock Cup on four occasions, building a run of success that has made them the dominant force in the domestic women's game. Colours of orange and black run through both teams, but it is the women who currently carry the club's weight of expectation, defending a title while the men look to turn a runner-up finish into something more.
