Mickleover

Before an away trip to Alfreton Town in 2019, Mickleover FC's furthest run in the Derbyshire FA Senior Cup ended in the final.

The club started out in 1948 as Mickleover Old Boys, a name it carried for forty-five years before promotion into the Central Midlands League in 1993 prompted a switch to Mickleover Sports. That name lasted until 1 June 2020, when it reverted to the plain geographical one, Mickleover FC. The old identity survives as a secondary nickname, "The Sports", alongside "The Robins".

Between the Central Midlands League Supreme Division in 1998–99 and the Northern Premier League Division One South, taken twice, in 2009–10 and again in 2014–15, Mickleover climbed three divisions of the non-league pyramid, picking up the Northern Counties East League Premier Division along the way in 2008–09. Stuart Beavon, who played and later coached at the club, was part of that rise.

Derby is a suburb club's city to share, and Mickleover's rivalries lie elsewhere in Derbyshire, with Buxton, Matlock Town and Belper Town all producing the fixtures locally billed as Derbyshire derbies. The club plays out of the Don Amott Arena, named after the chairman who has backed it through the promotions of the past two decades, with Steve Perryman MBE holding the largely ceremonial role of president. Mickleover now sits in the upper reaches of the non-league system it spent the 2000s climbing, with a return to the levels reached in 2015 the standing aim.
