The academy was set up in 1950 under president Santiago Bernabéu and organiser Miguel Malbo, and Juvenil A took the field for the first time in the 1950–51 season under coach Carlos Sorasu, taking the regional Campeonato de Castilla that same year.
Raúl González and Guti both wore the shirt as teenagers and came back years later to coach the side. The team plays at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano, which holds 6,000.
Two UEFA Youth League titles carry the side's recent record: 2019–20, when they beat Benfica 3–2 in the final, and 2025–26, settled on penalties against Club Brugge. At home, the Copa de Campeones de División de Honor Juvenil has been won six times since 1997, and the Superliga Juvenil three times in the late 1980s.
The fixture that matters most is against Atlético Madrid's Juvenil A, the Derbi Madrileño.
