Saint-malo Women

Sonia Haziraj has spent recent seasons building the technical side of Saint-Malo's women's team from behind the bench, and this year the results caught up with the work: promotion to the Arkema Première Ligue, the first time the club has reached the top division. It arrived on May 17, 2026, sealed by a goalless draw away to Lille that confirmed second place in the Seconde Ligue behind champions Toulouse. Saint-Malo closed the campaign on 40 points.

The club had been building toward that moment for years without quite getting there. A Division 3 group title in 2024 read at the time as another step rather than an arrival. Regionally, the side known as Les Diablesses has rarely gone long without silverware, even while national recognition lagged behind.

Players have passed through and moved on to bigger stages rather than stayed to see this promotion through. Romane Enguehard wore the shirt in 2018 on her way into the France youth setup, and Salma Amani came through a season with Saint-Malo before returning to international duty with Morocco.

What Saint-Malo has not yet built is a rivalry with any real edge. Meetings with En Avant Guingamp, Vannes and AS Vitré carry a regional label — the Vitré fixture sometimes called the Ille-et-Vilaine derby — but none of it has the weight of a proper league rival.
