Shaanxi Union

For the two seasons before that the club was not even in Xi'an: it rented the Weinan Sports Center Stadium, some way east of the provincial capital.

That question of where it belonged is older than the club. Shaanxi Chanba, which existed from 2006 to 2015, left the province with a crowd chant — "Shaanxi dui, Xibeilang!" — and the name that came from it, the Northwest Wolves. When Shaanxi Chang'an Athletic dissolved in turn, investors bought a club founded in October 2013 as Xi'an Huilong, which had by then drifted as far as Binzhou, and turned it into a phoenix side. The rebranding came in May 2023; the shorter name, Shaanxi Union, followed the next January.

The red shirts and black shorts were inherited from Chang'an Athletic rather than chosen, and when supporters were polled they went for black. The second nickname comes from this — the People's Club.

Little of the honours board belongs to this club. The Jia B title of 2001, the runners-up finishes in 2002, 2003 and 2005, all of that was won by predecessors under different names. What Shaanxi Union has of its own is 2023: promotion out of China League Two through the play-offs, settled by Pang Zhiquan's winning goal.

The derby against Xi'an Chongde Ronghai took hold quickly, becoming a fixture worth the name in 2024, the club's first season back in the province.
