Nothing on the calendar quickens Thai youth football like Vietnam.
The under-20s answer to the Football Association of Thailand, set up in 1916 under King Vajiravudh, and carry the senior team's badge and its nickname, The War Elephants , rather than one of their own. They play in yellow shirts and blue shorts at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.
Regionally the record is the strongest argument for the team's standing: five AFF U-19/U-20 Youth Championship titles, in 2002, 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2017, with runner-up finishes either side of that run in 2016 and 2024. A World Cup appearance at this level has never followed.
What the age group has done consistently is supply the senior side.
