Tromsdalen

The name changed twice more in the years that followed, to Radar and then to Tromsdalen Idrettsforening, before the club rejoined Freidig in 1968 and settled on Tromsdalen Ungdoms- og Idrettslag, shortened ever since to TUIL.

Nothing in the club's cabinet comes from the top flight. What TUIL has instead is a habit of winning its own tier at the right moment: five titles in the third-division group for northern Norway, in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2016, each one good enough for promotion to the second tier. The 2011 vintage is the one still talked about locally — that side scored 105 league goals in the season.

Cup football has given TUIL less to hold onto, though the club pushed to the fourth round in 2014 and further still, to the last sixteen. The fixture that matters most, however, has nothing to do with silverware. TUIL's own history with that derby includes players who used the red and blue shirt as the first rung on the way to Tromsø IL or the Norway shirt, Jonas Johansen among the more recent names to make that move.

For a side without a top-flight season to its name, the task each year stays the one it has answered five times already: get out of the third division and see how long the second-tier form holds.
