Unirea Braniştea

The mayor of Braniștea wanted a football team for the commune, and in the summer of 2021 the project began.

The 2021/22 season in Liga IV Galați settled the question: 22 matches, 22 wins, 151 goals scored and 8 conceded.

Three seasons in Liga III followed, the first two ending third in the Series 2 play-off. In 2024/25 the club won the regular season, then beat Știința Miroslava over two legs — 2:1 away, 4:3 at home, with Matei Frunză, on loan from Oțelul, scoring in the semi-final. The promotion final against FC Bacău went 1:3 away and 2:3 at home. Valentin Muntțeanu, born in 1989 and captain, scored four times across the play-off.

That same season produced a stranger footnote: against Sporting Liești, Unirea did not come back out after the break.

For a commune in Galați county that is the whole of the infrastructure behind a side that came within two legs of Liga II.
