Vardarac

V Arena went up in 2024 and 2025 with Croatian and Hungarian government money behind it, built to UEFA B licence standard. NK Vardarac plays there now, in a place small enough that the club's own nickname, Vardarčani, simply means the people of the village.

The club dates back to 1952 by the Croatian Football Federation's own record, though other accounts put its start five years earlier. For most of that history it has sat in the lower tiers of Croatian football, currently the 3. NL Istok, with HNK Bilje as the rival that matters locally. The 2024/25 season gave it something to point to beyond the ground: the MŽNL Osijek–Vinkovci title and promotion. A year earlier, in the 2023/24 Croatian Cup, Vardarac beat NK Ližnjan 3–1 to reach the round of 32.

The club has leaned on a partnership with NK Osijek, and it has had a striker who played at a higher level pass through it: Mario Mijatović, who had spells at Osijek and at LASK in Austria, turned out for Vardarac in 2022. It is that mix, a ground better than the level it hosts, that defines the club now, on a cup run that will take it to face Hajduk Split.
