Warrington Town

Warrington's derby doesn't run through the town's old rivals but through its own name: Warrington Rylands, the club a few miles across town, and the game between them goes by 'El Wirecode derby' as much as the Warrington Derby.

The club started life as Stockton Heath Albion, set up by Jimmy Drinkwater in the satellite town of Stockton Heath while already playing its football in Warrington itself. The mismatch was corrected in 1961, when the name changed to Warrington Town to match where the club actually stood.

Roger Hunt passed through in the 1950s before Liverpool and the 1966 World Cup made him a different kind of name altogether.

Warrington beat Exeter City 1–0 to reach the FA Cup First Round Proper for the first time before Gateshead ended the run, and the Northern Premier League Challenge Cup followed that same season.

All of it still plays out at Cantilever Park, home since the yellow shirts gave the club its 'Yellows' nickname, even as the old industrial one, 'The Wire', never quite left.
