The pitch is natural grass, maintained with under-soil heating to ensure a consistent surface regardless of the weather. 1. FC Magdeburg have played here since December 2006, following the demolition of their previous home.

The capacity has shifted with the ground’s history. After an initial opening with around 26,000 seats, safety concerns regarding fan-induced vibrations led to a reduction in 2016. A major extension completed in January 2020 added a new north stand, converting it to standing areas and increasing the total to 30,098. This was the crowd present when 1. FC Magdeburg and 1. FC Kaiserslautern stretched the back line in the 2025–26 season, setting the attendance record at 28,875.

Before the current naming rights with Avnet, the venue was known as MDCC-Arena. It has hosted major events beyond domestic football, including the 2009 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship final, where Germany defeated the Netherlands 2–1 after extra time. The stadium does not host a DFB-Pokal Final, but has seen international matches for the Germany women’s national team and the U21 team.
