Chornomorets

The current structure at Marazliivska Street was built on the site of a much older ground. Where the original stands were demolished in 2009, the new framework was raised to seat 34,164 spectators. The seats are arranged in tiers that wrap around the natural grass pitch, which sits a short distance from the perimeter road.

Visitors looking up from the stands see the curved steel arches of the canopy held by concrete pillars, with a large screen mounted on one side.

Chornomorets has hosted the Ukrainian Super Cup ten times, a record that means the fixture often brings two of the country's biggest sides to this corner of Odesa. The pitch has also seen international club friendlies and, more recently, a concert that left the surface in poor condition before the ground resumed its primary role.

The history of the site stretches back to 1935, with the original stadium opening in May 1936 under a different name. That name changed several times over the decades as the city's political landscape shifted, moving from a reference to a local party figure to the name of the Black Sea Shipping Company. The current incarnation finally opened in November 2011, replacing the concrete bowl that had stood there for most of the twentieth century.

The ground sits within Shevchenko Park, separated from the city centre by a ring of trees. The view from the lower tier looks straight out across the playing area, with the green of the grass contrasting against the blue seats.
