Deakin Stadium

The ground at the corner of Grose Street and Hannah Place has found a niche hosting the national team during a tournament.

The facility opened in 2008, replacing the older Deakin Football Centre. It serves as the home for Canberra FC and Canberra Croatia, though the long-term tenants are less significant than the occasional visitors who arrive to train for major competitions. In 2014, money was spent on new floodlighting to meet standards for the AFC Asian Cup, bringing the South Korea national team to the ground for training sessions. This upgrade left the structure mostly unchanged, save for the lighting that now makes evening matches possible.

The stands are simple, with covered seating visible behind the goal in some views, while the rest of the perimeter is open. The capacity is a matter of some debate, with figures ranging from 1,500 to 2,800, but the record crowd of 2,782 for an NPL Grand Final in 2016 suggests the upper limit is achievable when the stakes are high. The atmosphere is rarely one of "awe," but there is a sense of continuity here that is hard to find in newer, purely commercial venues. A United match against Adelaide United was abandoned in 2010 due to rain, a reminder that Canberra weather can be unforgiving even on a well-drained pitch. The stadium remains a functional hub for local football, occasionally brightened by FFA Cup ties or A-League friendlies, before returning to its primary role as a community base.
