The most striking feature of Egao Kenkō Stadium is not its history, but its shape. The stadium sits in Higashi-ku, Kumamoto, surrounded by trees and wide roads.

Roasso Kumamoto plays here. They arrived in 2005, when the ground was still known as the Athletics Stadium, before it had a name that stuck. The club has stayed since, even when the J.League tightened safety rules and the available seats for football matches dropped from the full 32,000 capacity to 30,449. The structure does not move, only the rules do.

The pitch is natural grass, and it is wet in the photographs. The roof covers the spectators, but it does not cover the grass. When the rain comes down, it falls straight onto the game.

The stadium also hosted rugby during the 2019 World Cup. France played Tonga there, and Wales played Uruguay. It is a large place for a city in Kyushu, built by Nikken Sekkei and finished in March 1998.
