The ground belongs to the town, not to the club that plays on it. Vizela's council owns the stadium in Caldas de Vizela; the club's SAD runs it.

The site itself came as a gift. Land for the complex was donated by José Fernando da Costa Vieira, and by November 1989 the club had moved off Campo Agostinho de Lima, the ground it had used since 1939. The East Stand, the Bancada Central Nascente, went up in 2006. Floodlights came only in 2016. Then, in 2020 and 2021, changing rooms were rebuilt and the pitch relaid to meet Primeira Liga requirements, with 160,000 euros of the cost carried by the council. A further round of work, around 582,000 euros on corporate boxes and facilities, was finished in October 2024.

The pitch has stayed natural grass throughout, tended by a dedicated groundsman from the year the stadium opened.

The largest crowd came early. On 29 November 1992, 8,000 people got in for a Taça de Portugal tie against Vitória de Guimarães — more than the ground now holds. Vizela lost 1–2.

Beyond FC Vizela, the ground has taken occasional international work: Portugal Under-21s against Liechtenstein in 2021, and fixtures for the Azerbaijan women's national side.
