Lins is a single-club town, and the ground on Rua Leopoldina has never had to compete for attention. Clube Atlético Linense, formed in 1927, waited more than three decades for a home of its own scale — construction ran from 1959 to 1962, and the ground opened that year with a match against Botafogo-RP, who left with a 4–2 win.

The nickname stuck before the official one did. Locals still call it Gilbertão rather than its full name, a habit that outlasted whichever formal renaming gave the stadium its current title. It is the kind of shorthand that only survives when a place has been central to a town for generations rather than passing through fashion.

Nothing about the ground has been rebuilt for a tournament or reshaped by outside money — it holds 15,770 on a natural pitch, the same footprint the town settled on when it opened. What has stayed constant is the tenant: Linense have played every home fixture there since 1962, so the stadium's history and the club's are effectively one document, not two.
