Kilburn Sportsplex

The ground sits at the end of a long stretch of Churchill Road, where the suburb of Kilburn gives way to open sky. For years it was simply Jack Gilliland Oval. The redevelopment into Kilburn Sportsplex did not erase that history so much as overlay it, opening its doors in 2024. The project was driven by a push to bring the West Adelaide Soccer Club to a permanent home, funded by a grant from the South Australian Government and private investment.

What makes the place stand out is the surface. It is artificial turf, laid down as part of the major $15 million redevelopment that followed the initial 2018 opening. The specific brand of the synthetic system is not recorded in the public record. The capacity sits at 5,000, a figure that includes 750 undercover seats in the main grandstand. The rest is general admission. The club’s chairman, John Tsianos, oversaw the construction works performed by Davison Earthmovers.

After Jack Gilliland, it operated as Distinctive Homes Park before becoming Kilburn Sportsplex. The grand opening was marked in August 2024, though the first official game under the new name had already taken place in July. The address, listed as 477 Churchill Road, is a functional marker for the facility.
