The ground on Garryowen Road has lived through three distinct lives, each one leaving its mark on the layout of the place. It opened in 1886 as a multi-sport venue, but the 2011 purchase by the JP McManus Foundation set in motion the conversion back to football.

The redevelopment was a massive undertaking, funded by the foundation, the Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership, and state money, bringing the total cost to €4.5 million. The main stand was refurbished to hold 1,340 spectators, including a corporate box, while new 300-seat stands went up on the other sides. The old Tote building was not demolished but was instead converted into changing rooms and facilities.

Treaty United F.C. are the current tenants, having signed a long-term lease in 2025, and the women’s side also plays here. The pitch itself is a point of pride, having won the FAI Pitch of the Year Award in 2016.

The capacity is settled at 3,075. It hosted the first All-Blacks match against Munster in 1905 and the Irish Greyhound Derby, but the most significant football moment remains the 1981 UEFA Cup match against Southampton.
