Mosul International Stadium

Between the blue seats the new stands in Mosul have taken shape, but the work is not finished. The stadium is meant to hold 30 000 people when it is complete, but for now it is a site under renovation rather than a functioning ground.

Construction started in 2013 after the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports agreed to fund the project. The design was drawn up by Orion Mimarlık, a studio based in Istanbul, and the work was handed to a Turkish consortium. The plan was to replace the Al Mosul University Stadium, which has a capacity of 5 000, but the work stopped in 2014 when the city was occupied by the Islamic State. After the area was retaken in 2017, the new hotel wing and helipad have since been added to the plan.

There are no matches scheduled here yet. The surface is natural grass, but the pitch itself is not fully prepared for play. The venue sits at the northern entrance to the city, off the Al-Shalalat road.
