When the energy company that had bought the naming rights went bankrupt, First Vienna FC 1894 dropped the sponsor and kept Naturarena .
On 15 April 1923, Austria drew 0:0 with Italy here in front of 85,000 . Further opera followed in 1935, drawing up to 32,000.
Seven million euros went into the ground between April 2005 and September 2006: a rebuilt main stand of 2,350 seats, a movable 1,100-seat stand opposite the old grass slopes, automatic irrigation, a new surface. That brought the ground to 5,500. Then, in April 2017, the roof beams of the main stand — built in 1976 — were found to be rotting. The stand was closed. Repairs were costed at at least 200,000 euros and never carried out.
Austria's rugby side used it occasionally up to 2016.
