Palace of Sports (Kyiv) / Palace of Sports Yunost

The Palace of Sports in Kyiv does not hide behind a facade of tradition, but makes its case on function. It sits at Sportyvna Square, 1 in the Pecherskyi District. The building is transformable.

The venue is capable of hosting 26 types of sports, shifting from a wooden parquet floor for basketball to a natural ice surface for hockey. The capacity has evolved through its life, settling around 6,900 for sporting events, though the number swells for concerts. The architect Mykhailo Hrechyna and engineer Viktor Repyakh designed it to serve as the largest indoor sports and entertainment facility in Ukraine.

It became a stage for the world when Eurovision 2005 was held there, a moment that required a major reconstruction in 2004–2005. That renovation was followed by another in 2010–2011 to prepare for the IIHF World Championship. The venue has held 16 World Championships in total. Teams like BC Budivelnyk and HC Sokil Kyiv have played within its walls.

The venue opened in 1960 and has been rebuilt several times since, each time adjusting to new demands.
