Patriot Chandrabaga Stadium

The ground sits in the Bekasi Barat district, a suburb of Jakarta. It was built to host regional games, starting construction in the early eighties before opening its doors in 1982. For years it was simply called Stadion Bekasi, a modest venue that held a fraction of the crowd it commands today. The transformation began in earnest after 2011, when the city government poured money into an expansion. By the time it reopened in 2014, it carried the heavier name of Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium, honouring the local nickname for the city and the ancient river nearby.

Today the pitch is natural Zoysia Matrella, though players have muttered about its condition in recent seasons. It is uneven in places and hard to control on the turn. The capacity is listed at 30,000, though some reports push that number higher. The stands are steep enough to keep fans close to the action. It serves as the home for Adhyaksa F.C. Bekasi, though it has hosted Persija Jakarta and Bhayangkara FC when fixtures required it.

It has seen the Indonesia national team field players against Laos and Fiji, and it hosted group matches for the 2018 Asian Games. The space is large enough to swallow bigger events, too: a vaccination drive once brought 25,000 people into the concrete bowl, and a speech by Zakir Naik drew a similar crowd years earlier. The record attendance for a league match sits just shy of 30,000, set during a clash between Persija and Persita Tangerang. It is being readied for the AFF U-23 Championship next.
