The Petaling Jaya Stadium sits in the Kelana Jaya suburb, where the local council — originally the Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya, now the MBPJ — built it for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. It did not look the same then. The main grandstand had seats, while the rest were standing terraces, and the capacity stood at 25,000.
The ground went through an RM8 million renovation in early 2024 to meet AFC Champions League Two regulations. That project converted the venue into an all-seater stadium and brought the capacity down to 10,661. It reopened on 26 April 2024.
The pitch is natural grass, equipped with an advanced underground drainage system. It was upgraded in 2021 in collaboration with Selangor FC, who moved in as an interim home ground while Shah Alam Stadium was redeveloped. They remain there through the 2025–26 season. Petaling Jaya City FC, formerly MISC-MIFA, used the stadium as its home ground from 2017 to 2022.
The stadium hosted the 2008 Merdeka Tournament and group stage matches for the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship. It also staged the Malaysia Sevens and the Sasuke ASEAN Open Cup in 2014.
