Portman Road

Portman Road has held the same tenant since 1884: Ипсуич Таун moved in and never left. The stands are a different matter. The West Stand alone went through four commercial titles between 1982 and 2023 — Pioneer, Britannia, East of England Co-operative, Magnus Group.

What the ground does carry are two names that stayed. The North Stand became the Sir Bobby Robson Stand in 2009; the South followed in 2012 as the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand, having spent 2001 to 2009 as the Greene King Stand. On the east side the Cobbold Stand, built in 1971 over the old Portman Stand, records the family that owned the club.

The shape of the place today dates from the promotion of 2000. Rebuilding the North and South stands as two-tiered structures cost around £22m and took the ground from 22,600 to over 30,000.

Two further rounds of work followed the club's return to the top flight — a hybrid pitch, coaches' boxes and LED screens in 2023 at some £2.5m, then new press areas, camera positions, lighting and dressing rooms through the summer of 2024.

England's senior side have played here once: 3-1 against Хорватия on 20 August 2003, Бекхэм, Оуэн and Лэмпард scoring.
