Sporthalle Brüderstraße
Leipzig, Germany
The Sporthalle Brüderstraße sits in the shadow of a different Leipzig. Across the street, the Röntgen Museum stands in slate and white stone. The hall itself arrived in 1978 as a steel skeleton, a functional block rather than a monument, and its local name, the Brüderhalle, stuck. It holds 1,016 people, a capacity that makes it a mid-tier venue for German ball sports.
What distinguishes the building is a renovation that ran from September 2014 to early 2016. The work cost 7.7 million euros.
The hall is currently active for several disciplines . The L.E. Volleys use the hard court for the 2. Bundesliga, while HC Leipzig plays handball matches within the same walls. The venue also hosts university basketball and local hockey teams, making it a shared resource rather than a single-club fortress. On quieter days, the space serves as a training ground for judo, hosting events such as the International BMW-Leipzig Cup and the German U18 Judo Championships.
The 860 spectator record for a handball match against 1.
The building does not look out of place in the Mitte district. The hall is not a destination for casual observation.
