Stadio Mario Rigamonti

The ground at Via Giovanni Novagani carries a heavy name. Stadio Mario Rigamonti was raised as a memorial to the defender who died at Superga, a fact that sits at the heart of the place, built by Paterlini e Tonolini in the late 1950s to replace the old enclosure on Viale Piave.

What stands out now is the quiet persistence of the site. While many stadiums were swept away in the modernisation wave, this one survived the demolition orders of 2025 to host its final matches. The shape of the stadium has changed over the decades, particularly after the 2010 safety mandate that converted the standing terraces into individual seats. The capacity has fluctuated with each renovation, peaking and falling again as the club adjusted the stands to meet the demands of Serie A.

The photographs offer a glimpse into the atmosphere of the past. They show players lined up on the pitch with the hills of Brescia rising in the background, a constant presence behind the advertising hoardings.

Matches played here have carried a specific weight. It was the stage for Roberto Baggio's final home game for Brescia, a contest against Lazio that the hosts won 2–1. The stadium has also hosted international fixtures, including an Italia match against Wales in 1988 that ended in a narrow defeat.
