Stadion Chavdar Tsvetkov
Svoge, Bulgaria
Formerly: Iskar
The ground in Svoge carries the name of a striker who played on it. Чавдар Цветков came through «Спортист» Своге before moving to софийская «Славия», and in 2007, after the ground was rebuilt, the club dropped the old name and gave it his. Until then it had been «Искар», the name it opened under in 1965.
That makes the arena unusual among small Bulgarian grounds, which more often keep a river or a factory in the name than a player. Two years after the rebuild, in 2009, the capacity was raised to 3,500 — a figure that says less about the crowds than about the terracing the reconstruction left behind.
The pitch is natural grass, and the ground has one tenant: «Спортист» Своге, whose league position has moved between the Bulgarian divisions. There is no second club in the town to share it, so the fixture list is one team's fixture list, and the calendar between matches is empty.
Цветков's national reputation reached well past Svoge, and the name on the stand invites associations the ground itself does not support — no link to «Черно море» in Варна, none to «Лазур» in Бургас. What the stadium holds is the earlier part of the career: the years before «Славия», in the town where he started.
