Valeriy Lobanovskyi Dynamo Stadium

The old portico of the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Dynamo Stadium has seen more than football. One photograph shows a poster of Valeriy Lobanovskyi beneath two yellow stars, a tribute to a man who shaped the club's identity. Another image captures the entrance during a time of unrest, where sandbags piled against the pillars and civilians in winter coats gathered around a small fire, suggesting the ground serves as a landmark in times outside of sport.

The turnstiles and grand facade, visible in a third image crowded with supporters, hint at a capacity that once dwarfed the current 16,873 seats. The stadium opened in 1933 on Hrushevskoho Street, a date etched into the foundation rather than the stone. While the pitch inside is now natural grass imported from Slovakia, the exterior retains a stoic, almost defensive posture. The lettering above the columns reads "Stadion Dynamo," a name that has shifted through several iterations, including a brief period where it bore the name of Vsevolod Balitsky.

The ground stands in the Pecherskyi District of Kyiv. It is not the largest venue in the capital, nor does it host every major European final anymore; FC Dynamo Kyiv now primarily uses the NSC Olimpiyskiy for such occasions. Yet, this smaller arena remains a physical anchor. The blue seats visible through the trees in one view contrast with the grey concrete of the lower levels. It is a place that has adapted to changing regulations, converting to an all-seater configuration for UEFA standards, but the spirit of the old days lives in the aged stone. The crowd that once filled the standing areas has been replaced by a quieter, more regulated attendance, yet the structure itself remains unchanged.
