The ground is not built on a track; it is a pitch surrounded by seats, a layout that forces the crowd closer to the touchline. The roof is a continuous canopy of white membranes, held up by 56 arched trusses that curve over the stands. Sunlight reaches the grass through those PTFE and ETFE sheets.

There is no running track to separate the fans from the players.

The complex includes the club’s headquarters and a training centre, though those buildings are not visible from the stands.

The opening in 2020 followed years of searching for a permanent home. The Sultan of Johor funded the project, which cost approximately MYR 200 million.

Johor Darul Ta'zim moved in for the 2020 season. The stadium also hosted a match for the Malaysia national team against Turkmenistan in March 2024. The highest recorded attendance is 34,590, set during an AFC Champions League Elite match between JDT and Pohang Steelers on 18 February 2025.

The design was inspired by the banana leaf, a symbol of Johor. Wind tunnel testing was conducted by the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Building Research Group. The stadium won the StadiumDB.com Stadium of the Year award in the public vote category in 2020/2021.

There are 280 VIP seats and 10 executive suites. The total capacity is 40,000, though some sources cite figures between 35,000 and 41,000.
