Tameside Stadium

The main stand at Tameside Stadium bears the initials of the local council in its seating, a quiet nod to the body that funded the build rather than a commercial arrangement. The facility opened on 8 August 2005 , a date marked by a friendly between Curzon Ashton and a Manchester United side featuring Gerard Piqué and Fraizer Campbell; the visitors won 8–0.

The pitch is artificial, a 3G surface that has seen more rain than it often gets in Ashton-under-Lyne, and the ground sits on Richmond Street. Capacity is set at 4,000, with 524 seats in the main stand and the rest on terraces.

The stadium has not undergone any official renaming or sponsorship changes; it remains known as Tameside Stadium. This stability follows Curzon Ashton’s move from their previous ground, National Park, after approximately 20 years at the old site.

The council’s investment was driven by local need rather than ambition for higher tiers.

The facility has not seen any major rebuilds or capacity expansions since its opening. It remains what it was always intended to be: a community stadium that serves its town without pretence. When the match is over, supporters leave via the same gates they entered, and the ground returns to quiet until the next fixture arrives.

The council’s initials remain visible in the seats, a reminder of who built it and why.
