WWK Arena
Augsburg, Germany
Formerly: Augsburg Arena, Impuls Arena, SGL Arena
Its most striking feature is the nest-like aluminium façade that wraps the exterior, a detail omitted in 2009 because of budget constraints and added later. The structure is not merely decorative; the arena operates as the first climate-neutral football stadium in the world, powered by ecological heat pumps and a bio-natural gas boiler. Inside, the seating is arranged to create a bowl that feels intimate despite the open surroundings. Red and white seats spell out the club name across the stands. The atmosphere has earned a reputation, particularly after a famous tie against Liverpool, which led to the nickname the "Anfield of the B17 highway". The ground has hosted international matches, including quarter-finals of a major tournament, but for the locals it is simply where the team plays. The surface is natural grass, kept in good condition.
