Fanja — Sohar, Professional League

Fanja lost 0-1 to Sohar in the second round of the Professional League on Saturday. Ruqadi Ibrahim struck in the eighty-second minute to decide a game that had gone nowhere for either side. The hosts were playing at home but could not find a way through a stubborn defence.

To be fair, neither team created much. Fanja looked more dangerous at times with 111 attacks, but their shots on target totalled just one. Sohar managed two shots on target across their 109 attacks.

And here's the thing — the goal came from a moment of patience. Ibrahim waited until the eighty-second minute before he made his move. By then, both sides had started to run out of legs.

The statistics tell a story of missed opportunities. Fanja had 54 per cent possession and four corners, but only one shot hit the target. Sohar had fewer attacks but eight corners and two shots on target.

The result leaves Fanja bottom of the table after two defeats with zero points. Sohar sit fifth with four points from one win and a draw. The hosts have not won since August 24, while Sohar have been more consistent.

The goal difference will not improve for Fanja on this occasion. Sohar take three points home and move closer to the middle of the pack.
