Fujiéda MYFC secured a 3-1 victory over Iwaki at the Fujiéda Soka Stadium in the second round of the J-League 2 regular season on Saturday. The hosts took control early, scoring twice before half-time through Y. Mori and K. Shota. Iwaki pulled one back from the penalty spot late on, but could not find an equaliser despite a spare substitution in stoppage time. It was a match decided by moments rather than sustained pressure.
Mori opened the scoring in the twelfth minute, catching the visitors off-guard. Shota doubled the lead just before the interval, and by then the game had settled into a rhythm the hosts understood. Iwaki changed both halves of their midfield with Kitahara and Takahashi coming on together at the break, looking for something different. The visitors did not respond. The second half brought its own drama. Shota turned against his own side with an own goal in the fifty-ninth minute, but the score held at 2-0. Fujiéda made a series of changes through the final quarter, Endo and Michiwaki among them, while Iwaki threw Nakajima and Nagao on. By then, the result was beyond doubt.
Statistically, the match tells a story of efficiency over volume. Iwaki enjoyed 53 per cent possession and registered 72 attacks, but only four shots found the target. Fujiéda had less time with the ball at 47 per cent, yet their five shots on target produced two goals before the own goal and one more from the spot. It was a match where chances went begging on one side and were taken on the other.
The result moves Fujiéda further clear in the table. They sit fourth with ten points from five games, three wins and a draw, one defeat. Iwaki remain in the relegation zone at eighteenth, with only three points from one win and four losses. The gap between them is now seven points, and that is a chasm in this league.
