Toshiya Miura took the club up to J1 in 2004. The club had grown out of a works team, the NTT Kantō Soccer Club, formed in 1969 out of an earlier telephone-company selection.
The corporate thread held until August 2024, when Red Bull GmbH bought all of the shares from NTT East for around 300 million yen — the first time a foreign company owned a J.League club outright. The renaming to RB Ōmiya Ardija took effect on 1 January 2025. Navy blue and orange stayed. The squirrel did not: the nickname Risu gave way to Red Doboru, and the Red Bull logo replaced what had been there.
The football either side of the sale ran in both directions. Ardija won the J2 title in 2015, then in 2024 took the J3 title and, in the same year, another J2 crown listed among their honours — a climb back through the divisions completed as the ownership changed hands.
