Kyle Van Noy Signs With Vikings, Reunites With Brian Flores
The 35-year-old edge rusher joins Minnesota's practice squad ahead of a planned move to the active roster, teaming up again with defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Kyle Van Noy has a new team a week before kickoff. The Minnesota Vikings signed the 35-year-old edge rusher on Tuesday night, first reported by The Ringer, putting him back in the same building as defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
The Vikings are adding him to the practice squad first. The plan, according to The Ringer, is to build him up before a move to the active roster.
Van Noy and Flores go back to New England, where they won two Super Bowls together between 2016 and 2018. Van Noy also played for Flores in Miami in 2020. Drafted by Detroit in the second round in 2014, he has since gone through the Patriots, the Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers and, for the last three seasons, the Baltimore Ravens.
His numbers with Baltimore went from a career-high 12.5 sacks and a first Pro Bowl selection in 2023 to two sacks in 15 games last season. Across 12 NFL seasons he has played 173 games with 57 sacks.
Minnesota needed the depth. The Vikings traded away Pro Bowl edge rusher Jonathan Greenard during the draft, and Van Noy now slots in alongside first-year starter Dallas Turner and Andrew Van Ginkel. Flores' defence ranked third in the league in total yards allowed last season, at 282.6 per game, and seventh in points allowed at 19.6.
