Alfred Collins to Miss Entire 2026 Season
The 49ers defensive tackle tore his patellar tendon in practice in Australia and will need surgery, ending his sophomore season before it starts.
Alfred Collins will miss the entire 2026 season after tearing his patellar tendon in practice.
The 49ers defensive tackle got hurt on Tuesday, before the start of team 11-on-11 drills at the club's camp in Australia. The 23-year-old will need surgery and then goes on injured reserve.
"This is a huge loss. After roster cuts and even before the first game we've already lost two defensive linemen for essentially the whole season. That's a serious problem for us. I feel for Alfred," said head coach Kyle Shanahan.
San Francisco had already lost defensive end Sam Okuayinonu, who broke his foot and also faces surgery.
Collins was a second-round pick in the 2025 draft. He played 16 games as a rookie, recording 17 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles and two recoveries.
