Josh Allen's Five TDs Power Bills Past Lions 41-31

Josh Allen scored five touchdowns for the fourth time in his career as the Buffalo Bills opened Highmark Stadium with a 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.

Allen threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more, putting his stamp on the venue already being called "The House that Allen built." It followed a four-touchdown outing in the season opener at Houston.

Allen scored the stadium's first regular-season touchdown on a one-yard run 5:51 into the opening quarter. He added a 43-yard pass to a wide-open Josh Palmer, and touchdown catches from Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox followed before half-time. Buffalo scored on each of its first four possessions.

Allen finished 20 of 31 for 248 yards and ran for 72 more. James Cook added 134 yards on the ground and sealed the win with a one-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

"I got a little emotional during the national anthem, feeling super blessed and lucky to do what I do. This is a great spot, we're going to be here for a long time, hopefully the fans enjoyed it," Allen said.

His two rushing touchdowns took his career total to 83, tying him for 18th on the all-time list with Jim Taylor.

Detroit's defense, already short-handed through injury, could not slow Allen down, and an offensive line missing key starters struggled to open running lanes of its own.
