Adam Vinatieri sets Guinness record with field goal in Swiss Alps
The 53-year-old Hall of Famer kicked a field goal at 3,454 metres on the Jungfraujoch, in snow and strong wind, ahead of the Patriots' game in Munich.
Adam Vinatieri has kicked a field goal at 3,454 metres above sea level in the Swiss Alps, setting a Guinness world record.
The 53-year-old, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, made the kick at the Jungfraujoch pass, known as the "Top of Europe", battling a gale that bent the ball and a pitch covered in snow. Vinatieri wore a New England Patriots jersey.
"Snow is just part of my time with the Patriots. But kicking a field goal at 3,454 metres is nothing like anything I have had to do before. You feel the altitude with every breath, your pulse and rhythm change, and nobody could say in advance how it would affect the kick, because nobody had done it before. I am very proud that we managed to set a record in such conditions," Vinatieri said.
The record attempt was part of the Patriots' events ahead of their game against the Detroit Lions in Munich on 15 November.
