Axel Bamba

Axel Bamba was born in Zürich to an Ivorian father and a French mother, and holds both French and Ivorian citizenship. He has represented France at youth level and has turned down call-ups to play for the Ivory Coast senior side.

He came through the academy system at Paris FC, where he spent five years and made 91 appearances, scoring four goals. Paris FC had the best defensive record in Ligue 2 during the 2018–19 season while Bamba was part of the squad. His move away from the club in 2022 took him to Spain, and he left the club by mutual consent in the summer of 2024.

Bamba rebuilt his career at AC Ajaccio, where he became a regular fixture over two seasons, making 31 appearances and scoring four goals before his contract expired. He arrived at Pau FC as a free agent, joining without a transfer fee, as had been the case in each of his previous moves.

Now at Pau FC, the defender arrives with Ligue 2 experience gathered across three different clubs, but without a senior international cap to his name. How his dual eligibility for France and Ivory Coast eventually resolves remains an open question.
