About the player
Jonatan José Cañete grew up in Saladas, Corrientes, where he was honoured with the "Cabral de Oro," the town's highest sports award, in 2012. He came through Independiente's youth ranks and made his senior debut with the club in 2016, before moving on to Argentinos Juniors, San Martín de Formosa, Argentino de Quilmes and San Telmo, mostly on free transfers.
In 2023 Cañete left Argentina for Bolivia, joining Palmaflor and scoring six goals in 20 appearances. He returned home the following year, signing for Deportivo Morón in January 2024 before moving to Atlanta that June. In January 2026 he moved to Venezuela to join Portuguesa FC, where he now plays as their number 9.
Across his career in Argentina, Bolivia and Venezuela, Cañete has scored 47 goals in 182 matches.
