Jazzar Shamah

Jasser Chamakh joined En Avant Guingamp from AS Saint-Priest, a step up from the amateur game into a professional dressing room where his surname draws immediate attention. He is the son of Marouane Chamakh, the former Moroccan international striker who played for Bordeaux, Arsenal and Crystal Palace, and the comparison follows him whether he invites it or not.

Born in Bourg-en-Bresse, Chamakh operates as a forward and has been used from the left as well as through the centre, giving Guingamp's coaching staff more than one way to fit him into the side. He wears the number 23 shirt and plays with his right foot as his stronger side. His move to the club came directly from Saint-Priest rather than through one of the traditional academy pathways, which makes his rise less conventional than that of many of his teammates.

He has not yet earned a senior international call-up, and his career so far sits well below the level his father reached with Arsenal and the Moroccan national team. For now, Chamakh's football is being built at Guingamp, where the task is to establish himself as a first-team option rather than to live up to a family name he did not choose.
