Abia Warriors

The Oriental Derby is a fierce rivalry between Abia Warriors and FC Ifeanyi Ubah, formerly Anambra Warriors and based just up the road in Nnewi.

It started life in 1993 as NEPA FC, the works team of the National Electric Power Authority, then became Ejoor Babes a year later in honour of Navy Captain Temi Ejoor, a former military administrator of the state. When Kalu left office in 2010, Abia Warriors it became again, and has stayed that way since.

Promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League followed in August 2013, the club's first taste of the top flight, and a CAF Confederation Cup qualification in 2018 gave it a first run in continental football. The nearest the Warlords have come to a trophy was the 2024 President Federation Cup final, lost 2-0 to El-Kanemi Warriors, with Emmanuel Onu among those who carried them that far. Striker Samson Obi went the other way after that campaign, his 21 goals in the 2023–24 season enough to take him to Rivers United and then on to Al Anwar in Libya.

Home games are played at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
