CAF Confederation Cup 2026/27

The CAF Confederation Cup ranks as the second-tier continental club football competition for Africa. Founded in 2004, the tournament emerged from the merger of the African Cup Winners' Cup and the CAF Cup. It occupies the space directly below the premier CAF Champions League, with no pathway for promotion to the top flight or relegation to a lower tier.

Participation relies on a mix of domestic cup victors and league finishers. All fifty-four Confederation of African Football (CAF) member associations send their cup winners. Furthermore, third-placed clubs from the twelve highest-ranked leagues earn a spot. Teams that fall short in the Champions League qualifiers may also transfer into this competition.

The structure features a qualification phase with two-legged ties before moving to a group stage. Introduced in 2016, the group phase involves sixteen teams split into four groups of four. The top two sides from each group progress to the knockout rounds, which include quarter-finals and semi-finals.

While earlier editions utilised two-legged finals, the recent trend has favoured a single-match decider. The winner secures a place in the CAF Super Cup, where they challenge the Champions League champion. RS Berkane and CS Sfaxien hold the record for most titles with three each. The current reigning champion is USM Alger.

The event is officially known as the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup due to sponsorship. Matches are broadcast via the federation's official channel, cafonline.com. The competition serves as a crucial platform for clubs seeking continental glory outside the primary Champions League bracket.
