Ankaraspor

Engin Bekdemir spent long enough in Ankaraspor's midfield to be treated as club property rather than a passing name, the sort of player fans point to when asked what the club actually stood for before the identity got complicated. That identity has been anything but stable. The team began life on 21 March 1978 as Ankara Belediyespor, then moved through Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyespor and Büyükşehir Belediye Ankaraspor before the football side was hived off in 2005 as Ankaraspor A.Ş., taking blue and white as its colours and a leopard as its badge — the source of the nickname Leopar. In June 2014 the club broke from that history altogether, renaming itself Osmanlıspor and having its official founding year reset to 2014 in the league's records, with purple and yellow replacing the old blue and white. The reversal came in September 2020, when the Ankaraspor name and colours returned.

On the pitch, the closest the club has come to the top flight's upper reaches was seventh in the Süper Lig in 2004–05, and under the Osmanlıspor name it finished as runner-up in the second tier in 2014–15. The one trophy on record dates to 1996–97, when the side won the TFF Third League. Pierre Webó, the Cameroonian forward, is remembered from a later, sharper spell — the 2016–17 Europa League campaign, the club's brief run among European company.

Games against MKE Ankaragücü carry their own name, the Ankara Derby, and matter more locally than league position usually suggests. These days the club plays out of the Sincan 15 Temmuz Milli Birlik Stadyumu, a ground that holds around 2,000 — a fraction of the 18,029 the old Osmanlı Stadyumu could take.
