About

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) 2. Lig operates as the third tier of the domestic football hierarchy, positioned beneath the TFF 1. Lig and above the TFF 3. Lig. Currently branded as the Nesine 2. Lig following a sponsorship agreement, the competition provides a vital pathway for clubs aspiring to reach the Süper Lig. Established in its present third-tier configuration for the 2001–02 season, the league evolved from the Turkish Second League Category B after a significant restructuring of the national pyramid. This change separated the second tier from the third, creating a distinct competition that now serves as a bridge for teams with historical presence in Turkish football.

The structure is designed to manage logistics for a large number of participants. For the 2024–25 season, the competition is divided into two groups, the White Group and the Red Group, each containing eighteen teams. Matches are played in a round-robin format within each division. Promotion is secured by the champions of both groups, who move up to the second tier. A further promotion spot is determined through a playoff system involving the teams finishing between second and fifth place in each group. These semi-finals and a final on neutral ground decide the last promotion candidate, while the bottom three teams in each group face relegation to the fourth tier.

Historical success within the modern era is shared among several prominent clubs. Bursaspor has claimed the title twice, winning in 2002–03 and again in 2023–24. Other notable victors include Adanaspor, Gaziantepspor, and Adana Demirspor, reflecting the league's role in hosting former top-flight entities. In the current campaign, Batman Petrolspor leads the White Group, while Bursaspor tops the Red Group standings.
