The club itself has changed its name twice since it was founded in 2015 as Muş Menderesspor — first to Muş 1984 Muşspor, then, in August 2024, to the plainer Muşspor. Neither change came from a merger or a financial collapse.
Promotion from the Muş Amateur League in 2018 put the club into the Bölgesel Amatör Lig, and the 2021–22 title there sent it up to the 3. Lig. Winning the 3. Lig play-offs carried Muşspor into the 2.
Stanley Nka Ohawuchi, a Nigerian striker, became the first foreign player to wear the yellow and white.
