FC Köln Frauen, known as the Rheinderby.
That name came with the badge. The women's section started in 1995 with the backing of Rolf Rüssmann, then the club's manager, and entered the district league for 1995–96. Supporters call the team the Fohlen-Frauen, after the Foals, and the shirts are white with black and green trim, as in the men's game.
The Niederrheinliga, then the fourth tier, was won in 2000. The Niederrheinpokal followed four times, in 2003, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The others came in 2015 and 2023. Two second-place finishes in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga, in 2015–16 and 2017–18, led to promotion.
The top flight has not brought a national trophy. The best cup runs ended in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals, in 2018–19 and again in 2024–25. Kristina Bartsch has captained the side since 2022. Luisa Palmen wore the armband in goal from 2023 until she left for SGS Essen in 2025. In 2026 the Australian international forward Anna Margraf joined.
Home games are played at the Grenzlandstadion, which holds 10,000.
