Andernach Women

The pitch at Stadionstraße is not the big one. Andernach's women play on the Nebenplatz, the reserve field beside the main stadium complex — artificial turf, floodlights, room for 2,500 along the sides. The main bowl holds far more, but the side pitch is where the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga fixtures are staged, and it is the ground the club is known by: Stadion Andernach Nebenplatz, also called the Stadion am Bassenheimer Weg.

The club above it, SG 99 Andernach, came out of a merger. Three local sides — SpVgg Andernach 1910, BSV 1910 Andernach and the football section of DJK Andernach — folded into one on 15 April 1999. The women's team followed only in 2007, built largely on players who came across from BSV Weißenthurm. The set-up remains amateur in status while the first team plays in a professional division.

Two seasons define the record. Andernach won the Regionalliga Südwest in 2016/17 and went up; a year later they were back down. In 2019 they took the title again and then had to earn promotion the hard way, drawing 1-1 with 1. FC Union Berlin before winning the second leg 2-0. The same two years brought the Rheinlandpokal, both finals against SV Holzbach — 9-0 in 2017, 3-1 in 2019. In 2021 the run in the DFB-Pokal reached the quarter-finals, where Eintracht Frankfurt ended it. The 2023/24 campaign finished fifth in the second tier.

Isabelle Hawel played for the club before coaching in it, and since 2025 has worked as assistant to head coach Thomas Strotzer.

The fixture that fills the Nebenplatz is the one against SC 13 Bad Neuenahr. Two towns, two rivers — the Rhine and the Ahr — and a name taken straight from the geography: the Rhein/Ahr derby.
