Burreli

Burrel sits in the hills of Mat County, and its football club traces back to 1928, when it took the field under the name Deja, though it took until 1935 before the side was properly organised. The years that followed brought a run of identities — Puna Burrel during the 1950s, then a long stretch as 31 Korriku.

Yellow shirts with blue shoulders, blue shorts, blue socks: the colours have carried through the changes of name and decade. The club has never reached the top flight of Albanian football, but it has made itself a fixture of the Kategoria e Parë, taking the second division title in 1980–81, 1982–83 and 1997–98, with a runners-up finish in 1986–87 sitting alongside those three championships.

The name most attached to the club is Fatmir Vata, who started his senior career at Burrel in 1990–91 before going on to earn 17 caps for Albania and being named the country's Footballer of the Year in 2004. In the Kupa e Shqipërisë, Burrel's furthest run came in 2015–16, when Besëlidhja stopped them in the semi-finals.

What has eluded the club through all three second-division titles is the one that would have mattered most: a season in Albania's top division has never followed, and the Albanian Cup remains a trophy Burrel has yet to win.
