Cetatea Suceava

In 2010, the club that had spent decades playing under a string of different names simply ran out of money and stopped existing. In the summer of 2024, after another local club, Foresta Suceava, collapsed, a group reinstituted the old identity as CSM Cetatea Suceava, joining forces with the city's municipal sports club to give the town a team again.

The name itself has rarely stayed still. Founded in 1932 as Cetatea Sucevei, the club was absorbed by CFR Ițcani in 1946 and then rebuilt and renamed repeatedly over the following decades — Progresul, Victoria, Dinamo, Viitorul, Chimia, CSM Suceava, Bucovina Suceava — before a 2004 revival finally settled on Cetatea Suceava.

The high point came under one of those earlier names. As CSM Suceava, the club won promotion to Divizia A in 1987 and spent a single season in Romania's top flight, 1987–88, before dropping straight back down.

Home games are played at Stadionul Areni, built to hold 12,500 but capped at 7,000 under current safety rules. The team plays in white and blue, giving rise to the nickname Alb-albaștrii.

With Foresta Suceava gone, the local derby has passed to Șoimii Gura Humorului. Since re-forming, Cetatea has worked its way up from the county level, taking the Liga IV Suceava title in 2024–25 and following it with the Liga a III-a championship in 2025–26.
